Canada Arts Council Announces New Funding Model

Did you know that The Canada Council for the Arts has just announced its new funding model? By 2017, the Arts Council will introduce 6 new non-disciplinary programs that will replace the current 147 discipline-focused programs. Minimizing the programs to a smaller amount with a non-discipline focus will simplify the funding process, and allow the artists be more flexible and creative with their visions and proposals. A brief look at the 6 non-disciplinary programs:  Explore and Create
  • Intended for artists, collectives and organizations in the creation of new work advancing their art forms
  • Creation of new works intended to be shared with the Public
Engage and Sustain
  • This program supports arts organizations in the production and presentation of artistic activities that engage the diversity of citizens within their communities and beyond
  • Support and develop artistic practices through the programming and activities of arts organizations
 Creating, Knowing and Sharing Aboriginal Arts
  • Supports Aboriginal artistic and cultural expression
  • Administered by a staff of aboriginal heritage
  • While this program dedicated for Aboriginal arts, it is encouraged that First Nations, Metis and Inuit artists also take advantage of the other provided programs
 Renewing Artistic Practice
  • The program supports innovation, collaboration, sustainability and adaptability in Canada’s professional arts sector
  • This program supports activities that enhance professional development in the Canadian arts sector
 Arts Across Canada
  • The programs supports activities that will allow Canadians in all regions of the country to have better access to diverse forms of expression and artistic experience
  • Support activities that develop networks and domestic markets to foster artistic partnerships and collaboration
 Arts Abroad
  • This program supports the presentation and circulation of Canadian art and artists abroad
  • Objectives are to enhance the profile, appreciation and presence of Canadian artists abroad
