Pomo

artist-12041

Pomo is a Canadian multi-instrumentalist and producer based in Vancouver who makes electronic beats influenced by hip hop, house, 70s and 80s funk music. He grew up in Port Moody, British Colombia and cultivated his tastes and sound through the Vancouver electronic music scene before moving for a time to Montreal and joining the likes of Kaytranada, Ta-Ku, and Stwo on the HW&W roster.
Since then, Pomo hit his stride in the electronic dance music market, garnering millions of listens online with his multifaceted productions on handful of original songs and a battery of remixes for some of dance music's biggest players. With that hype has come recognition from renowned music outlets like BBC Radio 1, the Fader, Complex, Vice's THUMP and Noisey publications, Triple J, Earmilk, Majestic Casual and many more.
Of late, Pomo has brought his live show on the road, traveling around Europe and The States alongside Disclosure, and bringing his unique grooves to gigs all over the world in places like London, Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, Sydney and even Bangkok.

Most recently, his debut EP, The Other Day was nominated for a Juno Award, Canada's largest Music Award Show. New music and new album on the way.

Bad Pop

artist-10944

BAD POP have grown up, and they’re kind of pissed off about it. So, this indie rock band turned to every teenager’s refuge: distortion pedals and sarcasm.

The targets are wide for Canadian band BAD POP’s furious but refreshing upcoming release, a deluge of raw punk rock energy, warm analog psychedelia, and cheeky nihilistic musings on music festivals, fast food and the loneliness of adulthood.

The live show is two-hundred percent fun and fury. Previous incarnation of the band, Hot Panda, drove five tour vans into the ground with over a dozen tours and festival runs of North America and Europe (SXSW, Primavera, CMJ and Reeperbahn).

Live, frontman Chris Connelly is alternatively heartwarming and menacing, like a pissed-off Weird Al. Superstar multi-instrumentalist Catherine Hiltz weaves melodic bass lines like a punk-rock bar-brawling PJ Harvey. Drummer Aaron Klassen was raised on a steady diet of Bonham and Grohl, and plays as if the snare just said something about his mother. In the band’s own words ‘we are serious about not taking ourselves too seriously.

Belle Game

artist-11239

Led by the hypnotic vocals of Andrea Lo, Belle Game weaves ethereal soundscapes into, blown-out, crush-pop confessions. Sonically, Belle Game exists somewhere between new-age visions and unkempt basements. Keyboards and guitars swell between the cracks as a foundation of subsonic rhythm is splayed across the floor. Their debut album Ritual Tradition Habit earned the band critical praise from the likes of Pitchfork and Rolling Stone; while their emotional live performances prompted Paste Magazine to name them one of the “10 Great New Bands from CMJ”. From hushed anthems to distorted instrumentals, Belle Game is always teetering between two worlds. Whatever the mood, it’s always a celebration of the hard times and a refusal of fear.

Supermoon

artist-11812

Supermoon is a band from Vancouver, BC that, when asked about their genre, get a bit flustered and usually settle on “moody pop”. Lots of jangling guitars, driving bass, playful drums, and bummer vocals. They've been playing together as Supermoon for two years, and were all good buds before that. Their first full length album, Playland, came out in May of 2016 and is self-described as "part film noir, part hot-fudge sundae." It's menacing, it's sugary, it's a midnight trip to the swing set where you happen to find a quarter on the ground. Lucky you! Open your heart to Supermoon!

Teen Daze

artist-16435

Teen Daze (Jamison Isaak) is a British-Columbia based artist and producer. He released his fifth LP Themes For Dying Earth on February 10th through his new label, FLORA.

After last year's foray into vibrant indie-pop, Themes finds Teen Daze returning to more ambient, electronic production with new insight: "I learned so much from the experience making Morning World, it would be a step backwards if I didn't apply it." This comes through in songs like "Lost", "Rising" and the first single, "Cycle", which fuse the synthesized sound of early Teen Daze records with the live energy of his more recent works. Themes is also distinct in its collaborative nature. Jamison has worked with other artists in the past, but never to this degree and expanse: "Making the last record alongside other people helped me realize that inviting additional minds to the creative process brings out the best in me."

Conceptually and thematically, this album is one of Jamison's most personal, navigating topics both intimate and broad: "Much of my work is inspired by nature, and it's scary to think that future generations may not have that same relationship. The album starts with Cycle, a song about my personal experience dealing with anxiety and depression, and it slowly zooms out to cover some of the external forces, like climate change, that are affecting those experiences. After touring last fall, I came home so cynical and worn out, I decided take all the nervous energy I had about the world, and filter it through more optimistic, positive sounds."

Ekali

artist-16232

Ekali is a Canadian instrumentalist and producer from Vancouver, BC. He started making electronic music in 2014, and since has been making big waves in the electronic community; from his visceral, captivating original work and collaborations to his thundering club remixes.

Ekali was accepted as Canada’s sole participant in the Red Bull Music Academy in 2014. Since then, he’s gone on to receive over twenty million streams, toured every corner of the world & received a writing credit on Drake’s “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.” His unique sound has earned him a loyal following worldwide, and cemented him as one of electronic music’s most promising artists.

In 2016, Ekali was tapped for an official remix of Flume's "Smoke & Retribution feat. Vince Staples & Kučka" and his Flux Pavilion "I Can't Stop" remix was officially signed and released by Big Beat. Ekali was also recently featured as a new & developing artist in HITS magazine.

Over the summer of 2016, Ekali released a much anticipated official collaborative remix with Gravez of Jack Ü’s “Mind (feat. Kai)”. This was quickly followed up by an official remix on Australian label Future Classic for Ta-ku & Wafia’s “Meet in the Middle” single.

Ekali's debut original singles are slated to be released in spring 2017.

The New Pornographers

artist-16348-1

The New Pornographers have a new full length album called Whiteout Conditions coming out on April 7. It's the first release on the band's own Collected Works Records.

About the new album's first single, NPR declares, "Hold on tight: it's another relentlessly exuberant, propulsive jam from The New Pornographers. The latest in the band's deep catalog of clever and addictive power pop is "High Ticket Attractions,"

Of the new record, founder and frontman A.C. Newman notes that, "At the beginning of this record, there was some thinking that we wanted it to be like a Krautrock Fifth Dimension. Of course, our mutated idea of what Krautrock is probably doesn't sound like Krautrock at all. But we were thinking: Let's try and rock in a different way."

Since their debut in 2000, The New Pornographers have released six studio albums including their most recent, Brill Bruisers, hailed as an "exuberant, synthpop-infused set" by Rolling Stone, "infectious" by Harper's Bazaar and "the grand and purposeful hookfest that you would hope these guys would come back with" by Stereogum. Pitchfork went on to note that "with the futurist sound of Brill Bruisers, the whole band embraces a more electric version of itself-bulked-up in chrome-plated armor, firing on all cylinders, and ready to steamroll anything in its path." The band celebrated the release with a special NPR Music "First Listen Live" concert at the legendary Brill Building, and performed songs from the album on both "Conan" and the "Late Show with David Letterman."

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15TH - 12:20AM - STUBB'S

Tei Shi

16178608_1240677599345763_748304797342289360_o
Crawl Space is the debut album from Tei Shi and documents her transformation from the cautious and curious new kid on the block to a confident, self-possessed artist. Written and recorded over a year and a half, the album traces a much wider arc, from Tei Shi’s earliest musical explorations to this, her first long player. Born Valerie Teicher, Tei Shi remembers composing songs as early as eight years old. The now New York based artist was born in Buenos Aires and growing up between (Bogota,) Colombia and (Vancouver,) Canada. Throughout every song, Tei Shi brings a remarkable clarity to the very act of vulnerability, to exposing oneself and inviting others in.
