With record label support dwindling, it’s often up to artists to fund their own careers. We’ll dig into the different areas artist can tap into, such as crowd funding, investors, sponsors, brand partnerships and more. We hope to encourage innovative thinking about the future of artist revenues, the artist-audience relationship, and building strong proposals.

Benji Rogers (Photo by Matt Furman)BENJI ROGERS Benji Rogers is currently CEO of PledgeMusic, the global direct-to-fan company he co-founded in 2008. A public speaker, investor, and musician from London and New York, Rogers co-founded Radiary Creations in 2014 and is an advisor to a multitude of companies, including Dubset Media, Sound Diplomacy, Cords for Music, First Artist Bank, and NoiseTrade. In 2014 he was the recipient of the A&R Worldwide "Digital Executive of the Year" award, and in 2013 he made the Billboard 40 Under 40 Power Players list. He is an instructor at Berklee College of Music, teaching the Music Business Trends and Strategies course for Berklee Online. Recent engagements include keynote addresses and panels at SXSW, Midem, European Culture Forum, SF MusicTech Summit, Canadian Music Week, MMF, BPI, Music Matters, GRAMMY Camp, and many more. In 2015 Rogers accepted a position on the Board of Directors of the Future Of Music Coalition.

The company does strategy and advises Music and Tech and consumer companies and also event plans and produces for many companies at events like SXSW, CMJs, Coachella, CES, Grammys, and much more. Shaw has worked with Rachael Ray/Watch Entertainment, Whole Foods Sweet Relief, Jakprints, Stageit, Ticketfly, Amazon, .music/, Public Enemy, Deep Eddy, Comedy Central, Target, Applebee's, Standing Sun Wines, Dreamline Pictures, Kickstarter, Uber, Bohemian Guitars, Fitbit, Gopro, Jabra, House Of Marly, Blue Moon, Sennheiser, New Amsterdam,Ford and more.  


Josh Carr-Hilton is a young media executive and entrepreneur from Vancouver, British Columbia. Over the last three years, Carr-Hilton has focussed his attention towards building sustainable businesses in the growing world of music streaming and digital content. As the current CEO and Co-Founder of The District - a media company specializing in music curation, social content and digital advertising - Josh and his team have built a network of online brands that reach over 600 million monthly streams worldwide across YouTube, SoundCloud and Spotify. Some of the brands that make up The District include SuicideSheep, Proximity, TrapNation, Monstercat, SwagyTracks, MrRevillz, DeepSense and Selected. 


Bodhi Jones is a local singer songwriter, and a topline producer of EDM Vocals for various DJs around the world. Over the past 10 years he’s sold over 50,000 albums while busking on the streets of Vancouver and touring back n forth across Canada. He’s currently working on his 4th full length album, titled HEART BEATS which has been 100% fan funded through an extremely successful INDIEGOGO Campaign that was launched in May of 2015. Bodhi reached 111% of his goal, raising a grand total of $39,043 in just 40 days. Needless to say… he’s a big fan of the crowdfunding movement and is eager to share his keys to success with anyone that’s interested in launching a campaign of their own!

Rob Calder has spent the better part of two decades navigating the music ecosystem. After touring worldwide with the indie project The Salteens and playing with bands like the Cave Singers, Stars, and 5440, he co-founded Boompa, an independent record label and artist management company which represents some of Canada’s diverse musical talent (Woodpigeon, The Belle Game, Dralms, We Are The City). Rob is also a seasoned producer, having executed photoshoots for Kokanee, Vitamin Water and Rolex as well as commercials for George Strombolopolous and Nikon. In 2010, Rob formed the creative agency, Secret Study, to connect brands with music in order to create meaningful experiences. Secret Study has now become a source for talent buying, music supervision, and consulting for companies like Telus, Fairmont Hotels, Hootsuite, Newcap, and Brand.Live. Most recently Rob has launched the curated culture platform called Do604 to bring attention to the best of Vancouver's live event scenes.
