SAVE THE BEAUMONT FUNDRAISER

For almost two decades, The Beaumont has been a source of inspiration and hope for Vancouver’s arts community. Since opening their doors in October of 2004, they have provided vital physical space and community support to thousands of creators.

The future of The Beaumont Studios is in jeopardy. Since 2019, they have faced severe financial challenges due to the soaring cost of real estate in Vancouver. The pandemic and subsequent lockdowns exacerbated financial constraints, and despite herculean efforts from their highly committed team and board, they simply cannot do this alone.

The Beaumont Studios team urgently seeks your support to keep their doors open. Our creative community depends on it, and time is of the essence.

Demand for Indigenous composers is growing worldwide, say industry insiders
It’s a short trip to the office for Justin Delorme, whose home studio begins where his living space ends. The room is filled with recognizable instruments — a drum kit, cello and guitar among them. But the tools of a composer differ from those in a typical music studio, and so there are also instruments such as the pedal steel guitar, which Delorme says is a bit of an oddball in the guitar world. “It’s like a slab of wood with, in this case, 10 strings. And you play it like a guitar but it uses a bar instead of your fingers and you operate it with your feet and your knees,” said Delorme. – READ MORE

Canadian Guitarists Pick Their Favourite Riff of All Time
Exclaim! reached out to Canadian artists to ask them about their favourite riffs. Some came back with some classics (Black Sabbath were a particular favourite), while others had left-field choices: lengthy guitar solos, minimal shards of spiky post-punk, a Limp Bizkit song, and a metalcore musician who cites Bon Iver as his favourite riff ever. SXSW Music 2023: The Best Things We Saw on Wednesday
The Austin Chronicle reviews BC’s Haley Blais’ SXSW showcase, stating: “The ladies from Boygenius may be floating around Austin this week, but Haley Blais made a solid case for being the “Coolest F**king B**ch in Town.” The irony, of course, is that Blais (with a silent “s”) crafts devastating bedroom ballads with an understated earnestness, but all the more empowering through their refusal to drown in the melancholy.” – READ MORE
