How Interscope Executive Nicole Wyskoarko Carved Her Path to Success in the Music Industry
A secret to navigating the music industry is learning that there is no one proven formula or method for achieving success. It’s a field that’s as unorthodox as it is complicated, and there is no singular roadmap. Nicole Wyskoarko, executive vice president and co-head of A&R at Interscope Geffen, understood that concept early in her career and has embraced being adaptable as she’s reached astounding heights. But while Wyskoarko started her career on the legal side of things, her passion for music and aiding in artists’ creative processes led her to transition to A&R work. – READ MORE

Copyright Royalty Board Confirms Streaming Royalty Raise for Publishers and Songwriters
In a big win for the publishing and songwriting community, the Copyright Royalty Board reaffirmed the 15.1% headline rate increase in royalties paid by streaming services to publishers for the 2018-22 period. The rate was decided in 2018, but streaming services Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube/Google and Pandora appealed the following year, arguing that the increase will make their business models untenable in light of the billions of dollars that they already pay in royalties. (Apple Music, the world’s second-largest music-streaming service, is not involved in these proceedings.) – READ MORE
Metaverse Music Licensing is set to make lives even harder for musicians
Music licensing can be a real pain. Any online content creator will tell you how they’ve lost videos due to one or two music copyright strikes. However, music licensing isn’t just an issue for people using or enjoying tunes, but also those who make them. Now, many are wondering what music licensing will be like when The Metaverse becomes mainstream. With companies like Warner Music Group already bringing music to the virtual world, how will it affect musicians?

Spotify Is Developing AI Tools To Hook Users On Music Creation
One tool will let you tweak a song’s rhythm or melody. Another can take the harmony of a pop song from, say, Justin Bieber or Drake and combine it with the melody and rhythm of a fugue by Schubert or Bach, if that’s your thing. “You’ll be able to try all sorts of combinations,” says Francois Pachet, director of AI research and development at Spotify. “And it’s really fun.”  It’ll be really fun for sure … assuming copyright clearances from publishers, labels, artists and songwriters get sorted out regarding any pop music that gets modified or mashed-up with AI modifications. – READ MORE

MEMBER OF THE WEEK

Filling in the industry thigh gap, 5 piece femme powered hip hop group, NADUH, write, engineer, and produce all of their music – meaning they have crafted a sound that’s truly representative of their collective energy – spreading unity consciousness through R&B infused beats that hit every chakra, laced with buttery-smooth vocals and herstorical lyrics. This one-of-a-kind group aims to shatter earthly constructs, and pop pussies worldwide.

Coming in HOT off a nomination for RnB Artist of the Year at the WCMAs, NADUH, introduces the “New Era” of girl-groups: true friends who are the sole visionaries and manifestors of their music, narrative, and image, rather than being formed and produced by men. Their music holds strong messages of reclamation, empowerment, sexuality, and spirituality, mixed in with “that bitch” energy, aiming to help their audience access higher realms of consciousness while entertaining their urge to twerk.
