Music BC is proud to present: The 2024 ARC Program Showcases, October 2nd to 4th at Red Gate Arts Society in Vancouver. After a summer of intensive industry training (The Clinic) and honing the craft of creative collaboration (The Retreat), our cohort is ready to light up the stage!

MUSIC BC’S 2024 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Save the date! Music BC’s Annual General Meeting is only four weeks away. This year’s AGM will be held virtually on WednesdayOctober 23rd, 2024 at 5:00 PM (PST).

During the meeting, Music BC Members will have the opportunity to help shape the Board of Directors, as well as learn about our organization’s vision for 2025 and beyond.

Additionally, we would like to invite active and enthusiastic members of the BC music industry interested in running for a seat on the Board of Directors to reach out to emily@musicbc.org for more information, and to express your intent to run.

To be eligible for consideration, a candidate must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be a Music BC member in good standing
  • Be 19 years of age or older
  • Believe in the mission, vision and work of the Organization
  • Attend 4-6 board meetings per year (currently held digitally), approx. 6-9hrs/year
  • Participate in at least one sub-committee (2-3 virtual meetings per year), approx. 2-3hrs/year
  • Must be available by phone and email
  • Support ongoing Music BC events in person whenever possible
  • Attend the 2024, 2025 and 2026 AGM, if possible, approx. 1.5-2hrs/year

Our board is currently made up of eleven directors which are all volunteered positions. This year there are six (6) seats to be filled (each seat is a two-year term).

The deadline for Nominations / Expression of Interest is Friday, October 11th, 2024 with Candidate Materials due on Friday, October 18th, 2024 at 12:00 PM (PST).

TRAVEL GRANT INFO SESSION + DEADLINES

Music BC’s next round of travel grant deadlines have been announced for Artists and Businesses – including showcase, touring and business travel!

As such, we are hosting another Travel Grant info session, led by Music BC’s Program Manager, Nicolle Dupas and Program Coordinator, Emily Clarke.

The session will cover an intro to Music BC, overview of the different travel grant program and deadline windows, application success rates and averages, application assets and best practices, the jury process, final reporting best practices, tangible application examples, and more.

2024/25 Travel Grant application windows are as follows:

Business Envelope Travel

  • Applications are open now!  (Read guidelines here)
  • Application Deadline: November 8th, 2024 at 5:00PM (PST)
  • This program will be accepting applications to support initiatives that take place between August 1st, 2024, and July 31st, 2025.

Artist and Business Travel – Intake #1 

  • Applications Open: October 10th, 2024
  • Application Deadline: January 10th, 2025 at 5:00 PM (PST)

Artist and Business Travel – Intake #2 

  • Applications Open: March 13th, 2025
  • Application Deadline: May 16th, 2025 at 5:00 PM (PST)

We are thrilled to once again be hosting Come Together, an initiative for artists ready to break into Canada’s largest music market. Presented by Canada’s Music Industry Associations and SODEC. As a collective, these organizations are working together to present two days of industry showcases, networking, education and meetings in Toronto this November.

CIMA will be returning to The Great Escape in Brighton, UK in May 2025! Canada House showcases will be hosted on site, providing business opportunities for participating Canadian artists and companies. The Great Escape is the festival for new music, showcasing 500+ emerging artists from all over the world in 30+ walkable venues across the city. Music industry professionals from across the globe descend on The Great Escape to discover new music and attend the conference run alongside the showcasing component which features panels, keynote speeches, networking opportunities and more.

SOUNDCHECK: A MENTAL HEALTH SURVEY FOR THE CANADIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY 
The Unison Fund, in partnership with Revelios and SOCAN, have launched a vital survey to better understand mental health challenges faced by the Canadian music industry.  Soundcheck: A Survey on Mental Health in The Canadian Music Industry is the first of its kind in Canada, aiming to gather valuable input and better understand the experiences, attitudes, and opinions of those working in the music industry.
