FACTOR Canada’s Envelope Funding for Music Companies applications are open now! The program is allocated once a year for a recipient to undertake a suite of activities fostering the development of Canadian artists and the promotion of their music. This can include expenses related to the production and marketing of sound recordings, domestic and international tours and showcases, music publishing, artist management and business development activities. The deadline to apply is Thursday, February 10th, 2022 at 2pm (pST).

Canadians Do Well On TikTok…Or So TikTok Claims Up to this point, the biggest Canadian success story has been Tate McRae, who domestically owned TikTok in 2020 and was promptly snapped up by Sony Music. Shazam Reveals Its 5 Artists to Watch in 2022 At the top of every year, Shazam uses its data to predict five artists to watch — last year it did pretty well with Masked Wolf and Tai Verdes — and on Tuesday the song-identifying app used a combination of its its “uniquely predictive data and algorithms” as well as some selections from its parent company Apple Music’s global editorial team to pick five “artists to watch” in 2022.– READ MORE
Concerts in the Metaverse could lead to a new wave of adoption Colin Fitzpatrick is a Dubliner based in Dubai who turned a bad time during quarantine into a business that promises to bring your favorite artists to a metaverse near you. His company Animal Concerts, which launches in January, is in the process of signing world-class artists to perform in the decentralized worlds of the Metaverse. – READ MORE
Grammy Awards Postponed Due to Omicron Variant This would be the second year in a row that the Grammys have been postponed due to COVID-19. Last year’s show was originally set for Jan. 31, 2021, but on Jan. 5, 2021, it was delayed to March 14 due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles. At that time, the show was also relocated from Staples Center (the former name of Crypto.com Arena) to the nearby Los Angeles Convention Center, which allowed for less crowding. – READ MORE

David Bowie’s Music Catalog Sold To Warner Music For $250 Million Warner Music Group’s publishing unit has bought late British rock star David Bowie’s entire catalog spanning six decades, including hits such as “Heroes” and “Let’s Dance.”Bowie, who pushed the boundaries of music and his own sanity to produce some of the most innovative songs of his generation, died in 2016 aged 69. – READ MORE

JC is an alternative acoustic musician from Vancouver. He released “Bonefires”, his second EP of original works, on December 17, 2021. Bonefires was recorded at Rain City Recorders and is a stripped down, raw, honest, and vulnerable record. JC is influenced by genres which include post hardcore, post punk, grunge, classic rock, and various acoustic songwriters. JC is excited to be writing and performing as a solo acoustic artist following years of recording and touring with heavier music projects from Alberta and British Columbia. He brings his energy and much of what he learned along the way to the delivery of his new original material.
JC writes from his heart, and lived experience, as a person who survived childhood trauma, loss, mental health struggles, drug and alcohol addiction. He is currently performing on the West Coast of Canada.
