Indie Venues Face A Surging Concert No-Show Rate — 50% of Ticketholders Are Staying Home
“Today, the rollercoaster ride of the pandemic continues,” said Presley, whose venue features 1,500 seats, hosts over 200 events per year, and employs 70 individuals. “Traditionally, about five percent of ticket buyers don’t attend performances. But now, sagging consumer confidence is causing national no-show rates as high as 50 percent.” – READ MORE


Recording Academy Strikes Partnership With GLAAD to Foster LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Music Community
The Recording Academy has donated $150,000 and struck a partnership with GLAAD — the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) media advocacy organization — to support its work to diversify the music industry and champion musicians in the LGBTQ+ community, the organization announced Tuesday.

Warner Music Group Names 15 New Recipients Of Grants From Its $100M Social Justice Fund
The Warner Music Group/Blavatnik Family Foundation Social Justice Fund has announced its third set of grantee partners.This new round of grants further advances WMG/BFF SJF’s vision of “addressing systemic racism and making real change in the lives of historically underserved and marginalized populations,” it says.

Electronic Acts Most-Booked At 2021 Festivals
Music research and analytics platform Viberate’s annual State of Music address draws conclusions from more than a trillion data points, thousands of artists and playlists, millions of tracks and videos, and hundreds of festivals.The study analyses which artists performed the best in their respective genres, what was played and liked on different channels in 2021, and highlights key music trends to look out for in 2022.

Beggars Group Signs Deal To License Adaptr Platform
Feed Media Group, a B2B music licensing subscription service, has signed a deal for its Adaptr product with Beggars Group. Adaptr is a subscription-based platform that enables start-ups to use music to drive their businesses. The music licensing deal with Beggars provides access to the company’s vast catalogue. Is Old Music Killing New Music?
Old songs now represent 70 percent of the U.S. music market, according to the latest numbers from MRC Data, a music-analytics firm. Those who make a living from new music—especially that endangered species known as theworking musician—should look at these figures with fear and trembling. But the news gets worse: The new-music market is actually shrinking. All the growth in the market is coming from old songs. – READ MORE


TikTok Reportedly Testing Paid Subscriptions Model
TikTok is reportedly testing support for paid subscriptions, allowing users to charge subscriptions for their content. While the company has declined to share how the paid subscription model will operate in the app and declined to elaborate on the features. However, it has been reported in the past that TikTok’s “For You” page offers videos from creators that users do not follow. When a creator chooses to charge, it is likely that their videos won’t appear on users’ “For You” pages. – READ MORE


Streaming Music Subscriptions Grew 26% in 2021, With YouTube Music As Fastest Growing DSP In The West
A study released by Midia Research shows that worldwide streaming subscriptions grew by a healthy 26.4% in the second quarter of 2021, standing at 521.3 million subscribers at the end of that period, an increase of 109.5 million from the year before. But that growth didn’t necessarily come via the usual DSP suspects.

Originally from Aotearoa New Zealand, Niki Kennedy is a Vancouver-based singer, songwriter, and musician who strives to create relatable music that moves people (emotionally or physically) while blurring the lines of genre in pop. In 2020, she pivoted to adapt to the changing industry and has since performed almost 400 virtual shows, performed and licensed three original songs for a national campaign, originated a starring role in an audio adaptation of a new musical work, and was one of the 2021 participants in the SOCAN Foundation TD Incubator for Creative Entrepreneurship. Niki kicks off 2022 with her latest single, Get Back in the Groove, sharing good vibrations to anyone in need of a bit of a boost right now.
