Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Shouts Out Vancouver’s Kimmortal
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — congresswoman for New York’s 14th congressional district — has paid tribute to one of Canada’s rising West Coast hip-hop stars. Last night (March 24), in a lengthy Instagram Story calling out the treatment of SCOTUS nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson during her confirmation hearings this week, AOC also shouted out Kimmortal and soundtracked her story with the Vancouver hip-hop artist’s track “Sad Femme Club.” –  READ MORE

And, of course, there’s the fact that TikTok can almost singlehandedly create chart-topping hits—a valuable thing for labels looking to put their up-and-coming performers on the map. That’s why TikTok’s new venture, a music distribution platform called SoundOn, might reignite industry tensions. – READ MORE
What If Artists Could Finally See Their Data? Chartmetric Introduces ‘Artist Plan’ For Direct Data Access
Artists themselves typically lack the ability to comprehensively survey their own data, at least without a serious company or team backing them. Now, Chartmetric is aiming to solve that problem with an artist-specific platform called ‘Artist Plan’. Actually, this isn’t a separate platform from Chartmetric’s mainline music analytics product. But instead of an enterprise-level package that allows tracking across large numbers of different artists, platforms, and rankings in general, Artist Plan focuses on one artist – the one subscribing. READ MORE
What Happens When Vinyl Records Meet NFTs?
Software engineer and Vinylkey co-founder Sean Moore has been involved in the crypto world since 2013, buying bitcoin, Ethereum, and later NFTs. He saw the rise of NFTs offering a digital facsimile of a physical product, and figured there was an opportunity to do the same for music. So he approached Citizen Vinyl CEO Gar Ragland with a business proposition: to press NFT-enabled records. “Anything that moves us away from this monopolistic, homogenous tunnel vision and creates a more creatively operative place, I’m interested.” – READ MORE
