2023 BY THE NUMBERS

Happy New Year! 

We’re back, and we’re still buzzing on all of the wonderful events of 2023.

We’ve detailed the reach and impact of our collective programs in 2023 including the Jumpstart Series, Travel Grants, ARC, export initiatives, plus our regional stage sponsorships, education and professional development initiatives.

We would like to acknowledge our partners, our members, our Staff and Board of Directors and the music community of BC at large for helping to make 2023 a successful year.

We hope you all had a wonderful holiday season, and we wish you all the best as we enter this new year. We’ll see you out there!



MUSIC BC TRAVEL GRANTS 

Our first travel grant deadline of 2024 is coming quickly!

Have you had a recent tour or business travel initiative? Or perhaps you have one coming up? Music BC’s travel grants for Artists and Businesses are still open for one more week – including support for showcase, touring and business travel.

Artist and Business Travel

  • Application Deadline: January 12th, 2024 at 5:00 PM (PST)
  • This deadline will be accepting applications to support initiatives that take place between October 1st, 2023, to March 31st, 2024. Please refer to the following deadline if your activities take place outside of this window.

As always, please ensure that you read our program guidelines in advance of applying, as we are constantly updating them to improve our programs. If you have any questions, please reach out to info@musicbc.org

APPLY FOR BREAKOUT WEST 2024

Western Canadian musicians, it’s go time!! Festival submissions are open for BreakOut West 2024. 

Each year 50+ bands from across Western Canada are selected to showcase for our international and Canadian delegates…. and of course, music fans! Are you an emerging artist ready to take the next step and grow your business? Apply to showcase for artist managers, booking agents, festival buyers, label reps and more at this year’s BreakOut West taking place September 25 – 29, 2024 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. 

As always, Music BC Members get a discount on submission fees when applying to BreakOut West. Not sure how to become a member? Visit our website for more information.

APPLY FOR AMPLIFY BC DEMO RECORDING GRANT

Amplify BC’s Demo Recording Program is now open for applications! This program supports new and emerging artists from systemically excluded groups living in B.C. to create demo recordings and engage in mentorship with local music producers.

Artists and producers can apply together for a $2,000 grant to cover 100% of recording expenses for one to two songs.

APPLY FOR THE OHSOTO’KINO RECORDING BURSARY PROGRAM
The OHSOTO’KINO Recording Bursary program is open to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit artists. NMC will provide access to its world-class recording studios and “living collection” of musical instruments, which spans 450 years of technical innovation. Two submissions — one for contemporary music, one for traditional genres — will be awarded a one-week recording session at Studio Bell to produce a commercial release.

APPLY TO SHOWCASE AT JUNOFEST
For two jam-packed nights, JUNOfest Presented by CBC Music will showcase 50 artists of all genres from across the country, performing for fans, media and the music industry. It will be taking place in Halifax, Nova Scotia starting March 22, 2024. Are you interested in performing? Applications are open to solo artists and/or full bands, apply today.

APPLY TO SHOWCASE AT POP MONTREAL
POP Montreal is returning September 25th – 29th, 2024, and is accepting applications for artists! For musicians and artists, fans, curators, critics, record labels and industry, POP Montreal is the North American festival that provides a dynamic introduction to the next generation of musical talent and independent art forms.

ARC Artists to Perform in Vancouver
2023 ARC Artists, The Bankes Brothers and Vox Rea will be performing together in Vancouver on February 3rd at Fortune Sound Club.

TYA Selected for Elevate Music Project
2023 ARC Artist, TYA, has been selected as a participant in MRG’s ELEVATE Music Project. The goal of ELEVATE Vancouver is to showcase musicians of all genres and give them a platform to develop and advance their careers. BUY TICKETS
