MUSIC BC’S 2023 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Let your voice be heard! Music BC’s 2023 Annual General Meeting will be held virtually on Wednesday, October 25th, at 5:00 PM (PST).

During the meeting, Music BC Members will have the opportunity to help shape the Board of Directors, as well as learn about our organization’s vision for 2024 and beyond.

We would like to invite active and enthusiastic members of the BC music industry interested in running for a seat on the Board of Directors to reach out to emily@musicbc.org for more information, and to express your intent to run.

To be eligible for consideration, a candidate must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be a Music BC member in good standing
  • Be 19 years of age or older
  • Believe in the mission, vision and work of the Organization
  • Attend 4-6 board meetings per year (currently held digitally), approx. 6-9hrs/year
  • Participate in at least one sub-committee (2-3 virtual meetings per year), approx. 2-3hrs/year
  • Must be readily available by phone and email
  • Support ongoing Music BC events in person whenever possible
  • Attend the 2023, 2024 and 2025 AGM, if possible, approx. 1.5-2hrs/year

Our board is currently made up of eleven directors which are all volunteered positions. This year there are (6) six seats to be filled (each seat is a two-year term). The deadline for Nominations is Friday, October 13th, 2023.

VIRTUAL TRAVEL GRANT INFO SESSION

Music BC’s travel grant deadlines for the 2023-2024 season have officially been announced for Artists and Businesses! After a successful info session earlier this year, we are pleased to be hosting another session with Nancy Lee.

Nancy is a Grant Coach, Event Producer, Curator, and Community Organizer based in Vancouver, BC. They are also a talented Filmmaker and Multi-Media Artist, as well as one of Music BC’s Jumpstart Career Consultants. Nancy will be bringing their high-level experience in fundraising for artists and creative projects to this informative session, while the Music BC team guides you through the process of the application and answers attendee questions.

BC ARTISTS AT VIFF SOUNDOFF

Music BC is pleased to be partnering for another year with the Vancouver International Film Festival to present 5 up and coming artists at SOUNDOFF 2023!

SOUNDOFF is a platform with a focus on song placement and sync licensing in film and TV. Local artists perform songs and connect with music supervisors at this intimate, invite-only live gathering.

Participating artists for 2023’s edition of SOUNDOFF include Adam Mah, Ché Aimee Dorval, Kylie V, NADUH and ZADA

APPLICATIONS FOR LET’S HEAR IT 2024 NOW OPEN!

Music BC’s annual Let’s Hear It Fest is returning to Vancouver on March 2nd, 2024!

Let’s Hear It (LHI) is Music BC’s regional concert series and emerging artist showcase. The series offers a unique chance for artists from British Columbia to connect with fans and members of the music industry. Now in its 6th year, LHI has showcased over 75 artists from across BC, helping them grow their local fanbase and industry connections.

In the spring of 2023, Let’s Hear It underwent a transformative evolution, transitioning from a quarterly single-showcase series into a dynamic one-day festival at multiple venues throughout the Mount Pleasant Area of Vancouver, BC. We are so excited to bring the second annual Let’s Hear It Fest back to Vancouver in 2024!

ROOT DWELLERS HONOURS NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH & RECONCILIATION
Root Dwellers will be acknowledging the enormous importance of National Day For Truth and Reconciliation this Friday, September 29th with a showcase. They will be presenting two phenomenal Indigenous music artists at the Anza Club: Lil Smudge (Hip-Hop/R&B) and Yellow Bunny (Alternative/Hip-Hop). With hosting by Francis Baptiste, Land Acknowledgments by Elder, Randy Tait, and Catering by West Coast Bannock.

SOCAN FOUNDATION X TD INDIGENOUS SONGWRITER AWARD
One prize of $10,000 will be offered to the award recipient. Entries submitted will be examined by a jury of prominent songwriters selected by the SOCAN Foundation. Excellence will be an overriding factor in adjudication. The jury’s decisions are final. All compositions must be submitted by applicants who are of Indigenous decent.

APPLY FOR CANADA COUNCIL’S CREATING, KNOWING & SHARING PROGRAM
First Nations, Inuit and Métis individuals, groups and organizations may apply to Creating, Knowing and Sharing (or to any other Canada Council programs) for funding for artistic and cultural activities. This program functions using a self-determined, Indigenous-centred approach. This means that it will be guided by Indigenous values and worldviews, and administered and assessed by individuals of First Nations, Inuit and Métis heritage.
