2022: Hope From Canadian Live Music Assoc. President Erin Benjamin
Before I offer my thoughts on how I think 2022 is going to go, I’d like to look backwards for just a moment, because after two years of feverish non-stopping, I feel like it’s important to remember where our starting line was, just before the fan got smeared.  In other words, where we were – and where (maybe, hopefully, fingers crossed) we are going.

Vinyl Popularity Softens Decline Of Canadian Album Sales: Industry Report
Ten years ago, it would’ve been unthinkable that vinyl records could soften the decline of Canadian music sales, but a new industry roundup says renewed popularity in the physical discs did just that in 2021. Sales tracker MRC Data reports 1.1 million vinyl records were sold in Canada last year, an increase of 21.7 per cent over 2020 when sales dipped amid COVID-19 and supply issues. The latest numbers topped the record of 1.03 million units sold in 2019.

Live Nation & Ticketmaster Face Class-Action Antitrust Lawsuit Over ‘Blatant, Anti-Consumer Behavior’
Spanning a staggering 76 pages, the comprehensive action begins by noting that the filing parties’ counsel in April of 2020 brought a different class-action suit against Live Nation, also over the Beverly Hills-based entity’s alleged monopolistic business practices. While the defendants have long “compelled consumer claims against them to arbitration”, they “drastically altered” their arbitration agreement in July of 2021, according to the newest complaint.  – READ MORE

Responding to a thread on its Community website, where users voiced frustration and anger over the delay, the company said that it has no update on when the tier may become available. “We know that HiFi quality audio is important to you. We feel the same, and we’re excited to deliver a Spotify HiFi experience to Premium users in the future. But we don’t have timing details to share yet,” the post reads. “We will of course update you here when we can.”

Why David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen And More Are Selling Their Music Catalogues
Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks and Neil Young have all sold theirs in recent years, while newer artists — including Shakira and Calvin Harris — have also jumped on the trend. And just days after Bowie’s sale singer/songwriter John Legend parted with his catalogue for an undisclosed amount. But the payouts aren’t cheap. Bruce Springsteen hammered that home when he made the largest-known single-catalogue sale in December for $500 million US. READ MORE
