TRAVEL GRANT APPLICATIONS

We are now accepting applications for our Travel Grant Program. Please note that Music BC will be announcing further deadlines for 2022 in the coming months as international travel restrictions and protocols become more clear. Deadline for application is January 14th, 2022 at 5:00PM (PST).

Applications from all genders, ages, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities and other measures of diversity are highly encouraged. Artist selections will be made in partnership with festival or conference curators, and Music BC industry representatives or jurors.

BC FAIRS AND FESTIVAL RECOVERY FUND RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED

The Government of B.C. provided nearly $30 million through one-time grants to eligible event organizers, fairs and music festivals to support their efforts to resume safely. Grant amounts for each event are as much as 20% of the total event budget, for a maximum of $250,000. Review the recipients list through the link below.

THING Festival returns to Port Townsend, WA this August.This partnership is part of Music BC’s commitment to providing BC artists with opportunities to grow their footprint within the Pacific Northwest, and perform for new audiences around the region.

We are still accepting last minute applications for a chance to perform at the festival this summer.

BECOME A JUROR FOR MUSIC BC

Music BC is seeking creative professionals and music industry representatives to join our juror roster for 2022. Our jurors will provide insight and feedback for programs such as Music BC Travel Grants Grants, local concert and showcase opportunities, micro-grant programs and alike.

We are committed to providing a jury that reflects the diversity of our province and the creative industry – including gender identity, sexuality, heritage, age, ethnicity, religious background, region, accessibility and socio-economic status.

Applications for Let’s Hear It! Live – Music BC’s regional concert series and emerging artist showcase – are open. The series will offer a unique chance for emerging artists from British Columbia to connect with fans and members of the music industry. Applications accepted on a rolling deadline and artist need only apply once.

INTERNATIONAL SHOWCASE APPLICATIONS: ARTIST & BUSINESS
We are now accepting artist applications for upcoming International showcase opportunities. Applications are accepted on a rolling deadline, but artists and their teams are encouraged to apply as soon as they are able. BC-based export-ready artists or music professionals are invited to apply  as part of an international conference delegation.

Midem Music Expo Scrapped
Midem, the historic annual music industry expo and gathering, will not be returning in 2022 – or for the foreseeable future. That’s according to senior industry sources, who tell MBW that owner Reed Midem has decided to scrap and “permanently mothball” the event.  READ MORE

Bill C-2, the first Bill introduced in the House of Commons by the new Liberal Government, makes good on commitments to save valuable business and jobs that are critical to Canada’s economy. The Toast Collective Is Closing Its Doors At 648 Kingsway After More Than A Decade
“Our rent has been raised to $1500/month as of this year, and this is absolutely too expensive for the way we’ve been operating,” the GoFundMe page states. “We don’t charge much to host an event at the Toast, so that we can keep our rates accessible for artists who can’t pay out of pocket and who might not have a very large audience.”
